Many companies now want to use social media to generate awareness of the products and/or services they offer. It is a nice idea, but it also generates a lot of work to keep posting and to keep your followers interested in keeping up with your latest information. Even more so than with conventional media, you must follow a regular publication schedule. The nature of the posts may depend on the specific media you are focused on:

Representing your business-to-consumer focus on Facebook will usually be a little less formal to resonate with prospects. Facebook is a membership-based site also. The focus of Facebook to have friends and exchange information. A problem with Facebook is stalking – people may put too much data on-line that is freely available. Because of its popularity you must connect with a consumer base on Facebook, like many large companies that have an established presence.

The easiest way to maintain an information site is to create an open group in addition to your (private) personal page. You can have multiple groups if you need to differentiate different lines of interest to different followers. You only need a business page if you want to advertise on Facebook.
